Spiritual care for
the road to motherhood.

Perinatal chaplaincy provides spiritual care and emotional support during your fertility journey, pregnancy, and postpartum period, or when navigating pregnancy loss.

Motherhood is a road, not a destination.

For some, the path is relatively straight. But for many of us, it comes with twists and turns: long journeys to pregnancy, or unexpectedly short ones; facing the grief of loss, and carrying that into subsequent pregnancies; the worry that comes with complications, or being classified high-risk; anxiety for pregnancy and birth.

For all of us, no matter the journey, matrescence (or the transition to motherhood) is a moment of radical change. You, your body, and your spirit are adapting to make way for new life: the new life within you, and your new life as a mother. You deserve care and compassionate support for that journey.

I’m Sara, and I serve women through pregnancy, postpartum, fertility, and loss.

I am a storyteller, space-keeper, and companion at life’s thresholds. I see matrescence—the process of becoming a mother—as far more than a physical change. Fertility, pregnancy, birth, and loss shape every part of who we are: our bodies, emotions, identities, relationships, and our understanding of meaning and purpose.

My training is in companioning and pastoral care for birth and the perinatal period. I’m also a certified Birth and Bereavement Doula (SBD) and am trained in Mentoring and Birth Art through Birthing from Within. You can read more about my background here.

As a perinatal chaplain, I offer two kinds of services: companioning and meaning making.

Companioning

It’s my honor to walk alongside you on your journey of, and to, motherhood. Companioning recognizes that while you have the inner strength to navigate challenging journeys, no one is meant to walk alone. My role is to hold space, listen deeply, ask questions, and use tools to help you move through areas where you feel stuck.

Meaning making

I also offer a few specialized services to help you process and draw meaning from your experiences with fertility, pregnancy, and birth. These experiences use therapeutic art practices and story work to help you engage with your beliefs, work through fears, and process or prepare for major experiences like birth.

  • Testimonial: Birth Story Processing

“I want to thank you for that session. I had no idea how it would feel going into it and I feel such peace now, after. I haven’t cried about [my baby]’s birth in years and it felt like a relief. What an insanely beautiful gift to give to mamas who’ve struggled through birth trauma.”

  • Testimonial: Birth Art

“Birth art therapy with Sara offered me a safe and supportive space to explore my fears. From the very beginning, she created a warm, welcoming, and confidential environment that allowed me to go deep. She offered a thoughtful prompt to guide our session, and the materials she provided encouraged creative expression without the pressure to make something perfect. Throughout the session, Sara was attentive, respectful, and present. She listened without judgment and never pushed for explanations I wasn’t ready to give. Her gentle presence allowed me to process at my own pace—and for that, I’m deeply grateful.”

  • Testimonial: processing birth fears

“Sara held a safe and gentle space in which to explore my own stories around birth as something dangerous. Through my birth art session, I began to create a new relationship to birth, feeling into its potential as a multi-faceted experience full of beauty and mystery. I highly recommend Sara's services to anyone hesitant to explore their own birth narratives and experiences, and trust they will be both held and respected.”
